| This guitar wiring modification shows how to use a double pole-double throw (DPDT) On/Off/On mini switch to select between standard series humbucker mode and coil tap single coil mode (South coil active) and also turn the pickup off in the center position eliminating the need for a pickup selector. In series humbucker mode, the output will be strong with a smooth attack and a deep tone. In single coil mode, the sound will be slightly lower power with a sharper attack and a brighter tone. Note: Series will be hum canceling but in single coil mode, the pickup is no longer hum canceling so a small amount of 60Hz hum may be heard. Click diagram image to open full size version.
